New Shoes

I just returned from a trip to DC (posts to come soon). One of my favorite things to do in DC is to ride the metro out to Friendship Heights to check out Nordstrom Rack. While I am there I also typically hit up Loehmann’s and TJ Maxx.

The main purchase this trip was a pair of nude colored heels. I had been looking for a pair in the right color for my skin tone. Luckily Loehmann’s had a just such a pair and at a reasonable price. It was a no brainer, I quickly purchased them.

Sewing project

Currently, I am taking a class to learn how to make a bishop style dress. My friend J’s sweet little girl is going to be the recipient of the first dress. Her gorgeous red curly hair will look amazing with this pretty light pink material.

This is a the picture of the dress as I blocked it out them sprayed with starch and steamed it. Now I have to finish smocking the design by April 6. I am off the a good start since the back smocking of the first row is complete. Now on the the part that requires concentration.

Finally cleaned off the camera

I have been meaning to download pictures from my camera for a really long time.

As proved by the fact that I just now looked at the pics from new years eve. We had fun at our friends house shooting fireworks and towards the end “drawing” with sparklers.

Please excuse the lack of editing to the photos, but I am doing good to have cleaned off the phone.

Entertaining

On top of the million other things happening in my life, I am hosting a cocktail party for my cousin. This combined with the fact that I have no free weekends between now and cinco de mayo, I must have lost my mind.

I finally settled on generic cocktail invitations Saturday. I also ordered custom napkins and cups.

I now need to firm up a menu and decide on the something sweet to serve.

Any suggestions on what to serve?

The Boss

Last night I ventured to Atlanta for the Bruce Springsteen concert with two friends. I have to admit that I knew very few of his songs by heart, but come on it is the Boss. (plus the tickets were a good deal)
It was an interesting night that proved to worth the loss of sleep. (got home after 1:30 am) I do not know if it was the fabulous company or the wonderment of seeing a legend but it was one of the most fun nights I had in a long time.

If you ever have the opportunity to see him in person, I highly recommend making the effort.

Bargain Dad

My Dad is kinda famous for trying to find a great deal. A few years back he bought a 600 dollar boat at auction and spent time fixing it up. The boat ran fine but was not the most visually appealing boat. I enjoyed the time I was able to spend on the boat this summer.

Unfortunately, a few weeks back a tree fell his boat and broke it in half. The good news is that the insurance payout is higher than the actual cost of the old boat. So he took that money this weekend and bought a new boat.
This boat is definitely a visual upgrade.

We are lucky that he made it home since the new boats trailer lost the tire tread.

I look forward to many rides on the river in this new boat. Hopefully unlike the last one, this one will have a working radio.

Baby shower pt II

As I posted on the old blog, I am hosting a baby shower for a dear friend soon. One of the things I am working on is a wreath for the front door and to send home with the momma to be.

I have spent most of my Saturday afternoon cutting strips of fabric and gluing them to styrofoam balls. The above is part of my work and below is the example I am using to guide me.

Unfortunately, I forgot how often I tend to burn myself with a hot glue gun. This was the first of many burns for the afternoon. I am hopefully about half way done, and should finish it Tuesday night.

Besides this, I also need to make the baby sling, polish silver and in an unrelated project mark up some fabric for a class I am taking. It shall be a busy week.
